Details

The University of Florida College of Dentistry offers a internship program for domestic and international dental school graduates and practitioners. The objective of the preceptorship program is to provide additional educational experiences to dentists in dental biomaterials, including specific areas of subspecialty interest related to dental biomaterials science (i.e., Operative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, General Dentistry, etc.). The preceptors attend school on a full-time basis for nine months. The curriculum includes classes with postgraduate and undergraduate dental students and residents. Also, there is a big focus on learning how to make lectures and teach dental biomaterials-related topics for DMD students and practitioners. Besides that, the program is structured to allow for personalized instruction and guide the preceptor through a research mentoring program. The preceptor will be provided with individual mentoring support on designing, executing, and publishing in-vitro research. The program does not involve observation in the clinics and clinical trials. Upon completion of all program requirements, students receive a certificate of completion.

Objectives

  • Enhance knowledge in dental biomaterials
  • Learn how to teach biomaterials
  • Learn how to perform a research project
  • Get experience to be a potential candidate to apply to MSc or PhD programs in Dental Biomaterials, Operative Dentistry and Prosthodontics.
