Course Description
As a general practitioner, it is important to know the common lesions (soft, firm, or bony; localized or generalized; and sessile or pedunculated lumps or bumps) occurring in different areas in the mouth, to have a differential diagnosis, and to know management options. Actual case presentations and management issues will be discussed.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will be able to:
- State the common lumps and bumps occurring in the oral cavity
- Discuss differential diagnosis for these lumps and bumps
- Identify the importance of biopsy to arrive at a definitive diagnosis
- Describe management options
Faculty
Nagamani Narayana, D.M.D., M.S.
Dr. Nagamani Narayana has been an associate professor in Oral Pathology at UNMC, College of Dentistry from 2003. In addition to her training in India. She is dually trained in Oral Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from UMKC, School of Dentistry, Kansas City and New York Hospital, Queens and obtained her DMD from Temple University School of Dentistry. She is a diplomate of American Academy of Oral Medicine and American Academy of Oral Pathology. Presently, Dr. Narayana teaches Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at the school. in addition, she sees patients in the University Dental Associates and is the Director of the Oral Biopsy Service of the UNMC College of Dentistry.
