Course Description
This course will cover practical clinical oral pathology with an emphasis on both normal and abnormal conditions commonly seen in the dental practice, including systematic examination and interpretations as well as diagnosis, management, and the use of screening tools and biopsies, by reviewing cases.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will be able to:
- Diagnose normal, normal variation, and abnormal conditions
- Understand the etiology and management of oral lesions
- Better recognize oral lesions and formulate a differential diagnosis
- Develop a diagnostic approach including an understanding of the oral soft-tissue biopsy technique
Faculty
Firoozeh Samim, DMD, MSc, Dip ABOMP, FRCD(c)
Dr. Samim received her DMD from Shiraz University of Medical Science. She completed the Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology residency program at University of British Columbia (UBC) and obtained her Master of Science in craniofacial and pediatric dentistry. After holding the position of an assistant professor at UBC and staff of the British Columbia Cancer Agency, she is currently an assistant professor at McGill University and a staff of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Health Science Center of Newfoundland. Dr. Samim’s expertise lies in the diagnosis, nature, and primarily non-surgical management of oral, maxillofacial, and temporomandibular disorders.
