Utilizing Laser Technology in a Periodontal Environment

Course Description

Confused by the role of lasers in periodontal therapy? Perplexed by manufacturers’ claims of success? Today’s dental practitioner is being exposed to laser therapy as a procedure for treating soft and hard tissue, ranging from esthetic crown lengthening to treatment of periodontitis. Join us for an objective insight into laser utilization by exploring anecdotal and scientific resources. Case reports demonstrating success will be presented along with clear contraindications. Incorporating laser into a dental practice will be introduced considering practice management, patient acceptance, and third party reimbursement.

Through a workshop, hands-on integrated environment, participants will experience different laser equipment and techniques in clinical conditions ranging from frenectomy and esthetic/restorative crown lengthening to the role in managing periodontitis. You will leave with the tools to make informed decisions in laser dentistry.

Course Objectives

  • Differentiate laser technologies for periodontal indications
  • Understand indications for using laser in crown lengthening procedures
  • Develop techniques for introducing laser therapies into practice

Advanced Session

You will use both diodes and the Erbium lasers including dual wave length laser therapy. The course will be focused to existing laser users and will concentrate on competency in both surgical and non-surgical perio and crown lengthening including closed crown lengthening for esthetics with osseous surgery thus the need for the erbium.

The hands-on workshop will be in the simulation lab for a step-by-step process in procedures on the hog jaws. There will be a significant number of patient videos in the course to supplement the lectures and hands-on.
