Description

This session will explore the evolving roles of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) in orthodontics and their growing impact in academic and clinical dentistry at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Participants will gain insight into how AI-driven technologies and immersive VR platforms are being integrated into diagnosis, treatment planning, simulation, and workflow efficiency, as well as the broader purpose of digital innovation within UFCD’s educational and research initiatives. The lecture will highlight how VR-enhanced training environments and AI-supported decision tools are reshaping both clinical practice and learner experience. Together, these emerging technologies offer a forward-looking perspective on how digital tools may enhance clinical decision-making, improve educational outcomes, and shape the future of orthodontic care.

Objectives

1. Understand the Roles of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality in Orthodontics:  Explore how AI supports diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical workflows, and how VR enables immersive simulation, procedural training, and enhanced visualization.

2. Examine Applications of AI and VR within UFCD:  Gain insight into how these technologies are being utilized in education, research, and patient care, including digital simulation, virtual training modules, and AI-assisted clinical tools.

3. Discuss Future Implications of AI and VR in Dental Practice: Evaluate how emerging digital tools may influence efficiency, accuracy, training quality, and interdisciplinary collaboration in orthodontics.
