Description

This program features two presentations highlighting emerging concepts and technologies shaping modern dental practice. Participants will first explore the diagnosis, classification, treatment planning, and prognosis of teeth affected by external cervical resorption (ECR), with an emphasis on how 3D CBCT-based lesion characterization guides clinical decision-making. The program will then examine the evolving roles of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) in orthodontics and their growing impact on dental education, research, and patient care at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Through discussions of evidence-based treatment approaches, digital innovation, immersive training environments, and AI-supported clinical tools, attendees will gain insight into how both established and emerging technologies can enhance diagnosis, treatment planning, clinical efficiency, and educational outcomes.


Objectives

  • Describe the pathology and clinical presentation of external cervical resorption and interpret 3D lesion classifications to support treatment planning.
  • Apply evidence-based decision-making when evaluating management options and prognosis for teeth affected by external cervical resorption.
  • Explain the roles of artificial intelligence and virtual reality in orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, clinical workflows, and simulation-based education.
  • Examine current applications of AI and VR within dental education, research, and patient care.
  • Discuss the potential impact of emerging digital technologies on clinical decision-making, training, efficiency, and the future of dental practice.
