  • Understand the steps required to take a proper panoramic radiograph and be able to identify and correct errors.
  • Review real and ghost formations.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and correct the errors with a case-based self-assessment.
  • Understand normal panoramic anatomy.
  • Diagnose common pathological lesions seen on panoramic images.
  • Identify carotid artery calcifications on panoramic radiographs.

PM Course – Radiographic Navigation in the Diagnosis of Lesions within the Jaws

A plethora of conditions are seen within the maxillofacial complex including developmental, inflammatory, neoplastic, and metabolic conditions. Intraoral periapical, bitewings along with panoramic radiographs are the most common imaging modalities in a dental practice. CBCT has transformed the practice of dentistry and is becoming quite popular. A case-based approach will be used to methodically review radiographic findings. The presentation will include 2-D and 3-D illustrated case presentations, discussions, and interactive radiographic interpretations.

  • Interpret panoramic and intra-oral images for proper diagnostic information in radiographs
  • Understand normal anatomical landmarks
  • Understand the various errors commonly seen with these images
  • Diagnose common pathological lesions seen on 2D images
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings on CBCT images.
  • Identify incidental findings on radiographs.
  • Recognize the differences between benign and aggressive lesions.
  • Consider the best imaging modalities for differentiating these lesions.
  • Adopt how to systematically create a radiographic differential diagnosis.
