The Center for Implant Dentistry (CID) at the University of Florida’s College of Dentistry is proud to announce its 25th anniversary celebration! Founded in 1999 through a generous grant from the Straumann Company and the International Team for Implantology (ITI), with matching funds from the State of Florida, the CID has been a beacon of innovation and excellence in the fields of education, research, and patient care.

Over the past quarter-century, the CID has been recognized as a leading institution, hosting 30 ITI Scholars from around the globe and contributing significantly to the mission of the University and ITI. Our faculty have been celebrated as international educators, researchers, and leaders, making impactful contributions to the dental community.

To commemorate this milestone, we warmly invite you to this special celebration of the CID’s remarkable contributions over the past 25 years. 

NOTE: All proceeds from this meeting including registration, donations, raffles and sponsor fees, will go to the UF Center for Implant Dentistry Foundation which will be used for future improvements and resident/fellow education opportunities.

Achieving Predictable Clinical Outcomes through Evolution in Techniques, Materials and Technology

Emphasis on positive treatment and esthetic outcomes for implant-based care is at the forefront of clinical practice and patient demands. Predictable treatment success for our patients is reliant on many factors including, comprehensive assessment and planning, proper execution, the quality of the implant site and tissue response, selection of appropriate implants and components as well as restoration design and materials.

This 25th anniversary program highlights internationally recognized speakers with ties to the success of the Center for Implant Dentistry. They are tasked with highlighting specific areas of implant dentistry the are aligned with the meeting theme. Participants should expect high quality education, lively discussions and great networking opportunities.

Meet our speakers

Keynote – Dr. Daniel Buser

Dr. Daniel Buser is one of the most experienced implant surgeons with 35 years of surgical experience. He is a pioneer of micro-rough implant surfaces, and of the GBR technique. He has been Professor and Chairman at the Department of Oral Surgery at the University of Bern in Switzerland (2000-2019). He served as President of various academic associations including the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) in 1996/97, the Swiss Society of Oral Implantology (SSOI) in 1999-2002, and the ITI in 2009-2013. He was also member of the Board of Directors of the Osteology Foundation (2004-2018).

He received several scientific awards by professional organizations such as the ITI, the AO, the AAP and the AAOMS. His main research areas are in tissue regeneration around dental implants, surface technology and Guided Bone Regeneration. He published with his team more than 400 publications, case reports and book chapters. He is also Editor of the GBR Book (1994 and 2009).


Dr. German O. Gallucci

Dr. German Gallucci received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (Dr. Med. Dent.) from the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics and Occlusion at the University of Geneva, where he later became a full-time faculty member. Gallucci also earned a PhD from the Free University of Amsterdam. In 2007, he established the Postgraduate Education Program in Oral Implantology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). He is currently the department chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences.

Gallucci serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Dental Research (JDR), Clinical Oral Implants Research (COIR), and the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants (IJOMI). He is a fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) in Switzerland and an active member of the Academy of Osseointegration and the European Academy of Osseointegration. Gallucci’s research interests include clinical and translational studies in fixed prosthodontics, oral implantology, and applied digital dental technology. He is the principal investigator (PI) of the oral implantology clinical research team at the Division of Regenerative and Implant Sciences at HSDM.


Dr. Ghida Lawand

Dr. Ghida Lawand earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Beirut Arab University, Lebanon, and pursued a Master’s degree in Prosthodontics and Esthetic Dentistry at Saint Joseph University, Lebanon. She has served as a clinical and digital instructor in the Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics Department at Beirut Arab University. In addition to her academic role, she has practiced dentistry in her private practice and at Tohme Clinic. Currently, Dr. Lawand is an ITI Scholar at the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. In 2018, she won the Middle East and North Africa regional finals of the Global Clinical Case Contest held by Dentsply Sirona. In 2024, she was awarded the Audience Favorite Award at the World Series Final of the Young ITI Day in Singapore. Dr. Lawand has contributed to the field of prosthodontics, digital dentistry, and implantology through her publications in peer-reviewed journals.


Dr. Luiz H. Gonzaga

Dr. Luiz H. Gonzaga is a highly accomplished dental professional with a wealth of experience in implant dentistry. He graduated from the Catholic University of Brasilia College of Dentistry in 2004 and pursued specialized training in Implant/Periodontics at IPESP Brasilia, where he graduated in 2009. Dr. Gonzaga’s commitment to excellence was recognized when he was awarded the prestigious ITI scholarship in 2009, which allowed him to complete an Implant fellowship.

In 2011, he was accepted into a residency program at the University of Florida, where he earned his Master’s degree in Prosthodontics in 2014. Currently, Dr. Gonzaga serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida Center for Implant Dentistry. His expertise in implant dentistry has made him a sought-after speaker, and he is an ITI speaker and Fellow of the International Team for Implantology. He is also a member of esteemed organizations like the American College of Prosthodontics and the Academy of Osseointegration.

Dr. Gonzaga’s contributions to the field extend beyond his clinical work. He currently holds the position of Leadership development committee member of ITI Global and is the Past President of the Florida Prosthodontic Association. He has presented lectures nationally and internationally, sharing his knowledge and expertise in implant dentistry. Additionally, he has published research in peer-reviewed journals and collaborates with esteemed institutions such as the University of Michigan, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Sao Paulo. Doctor Gonzaga is a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Prosthodontics, JPD, IJOMI, COIR and IJPRD.


Dr. Robert A. Levine

Dr. Robert A. Levine maintained a full-time private practice in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Center for Dental Implants and Periodontics for over 35 years. He graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1981 and received his post-graduate certificate in Periodontics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. Dr. Levine holds post-graduate periodontology-implantology clinical teaching positions at the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, the University of North Carolina, the University of Illinois in Chicago, and the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Levine is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, President, and Fellow of the International Society of Periodontal Plastic Surgeons (FISPPS), and a Fellow, Diplomate, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO). He organizes and leads the AO “Hot Seat” Live Podcasts which is streamed on YouTube. Dr. Levine is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and presently serves as the US ITI Section Chair. He lectures internationally and has authored over 100 scientific publications and has participated in the last 4 ITI Consensus Conferences and last 3 Academy of Osseointegration Consensus Conferences.


Dr. Will C Martin

Event Moderator

Dr. Will Martin is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Florida’s College of Dentistry. He received his DMD from the University of Florida and completed his MS and Certificate in Prosthodontics from Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Martin joined the faculty at the University of Florida in 1999 and currently serves as the Director of the Center for Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Martin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, International Team for Implantology and Associate Fellow of the Academy of Prosthodontics.

Dr. Martin has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts. He has co-authored several textbooks on implant dentistry, specifically the ITI Treatment Guides Vol. 1 and 10, S.A.C. Classification in Implant Dentistry (1st Edition) and most recently the 2nd Edition. He is the past Chairman of the Section USA of the ITI and maintains a part-time practice limited to Prosthodontics within the Center for Implant Dentistry. He lectures both nationally and internationally on esthetic and implant dentistry.
