Digital Dentures – Are we there yet?

Course Description:

This lecture will cover the latest digital workflows and technologies for developing complete dentures. We will explore the advantages and limitations of digital dentures compared to conventional dentures. Attendees will learn about the various digital denture fabrication techniques, including intraoral and extraoral scanners, digital design software, and 3D printing and Milling. We will discuss how to obtain accurate impressions, design dentures with custom-fit and high esthetic appeal, and address functional issues of the conventional complete denture. The course objectives are to familiarize attendees with the latest digital solutions available for complete denture fabrication, improve the communication between dentist and dental technician, and enhance patient satisfaction

  1. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of digital complete dentures
  2. Recognize the different digital workflows used in the fabrication of complete dentures
  3. Identify the materials used in the fabrication of digital complete dentures and their properties
  4. Describe the clinical step-by-step protocols used in the digital complete denture process
  5. Evaluate the impact of digital technology on the clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction in complete denture prosthodontics

Meet the Speaker: Dr. Taha Akhtar

Dr. Akhtar is currently an Asst. Professor in the department of Prosthodontics at Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine and a clinical Prosthodontist at WFHC in Worcester, MA, USA. He did his postdoctoral residency in Prosthodontics from Boston University. He is the cofounder and current President of International Society of Education. He is the past Chairman of Postgraduate Residents in USA of American Dental Education Association. He started his career in dentistry after obtaining the dental degree as a Resident in Dental and Maxillofacial Department at Saudi German Hospitals Group (SGH) Jeddah Saudi Arabia. He displayed remarkable leadership skills of starting the idea of International Society of Dentists (ISD) which has transformed into a bigger organization currently known as ISE. Before starting his residency in US, he was Continuing Dental Education Director at Saudi German Hospital, he supervised various dental courses across the USA, Saudi Arabia, Germany, South Asia & UAE. He has keen interest in writing research papers relevant to different specialties in Dentistry. He has dedicated time in giving research courses for students and residents to publish their papers in recognized journals. He has given lectures and workshops locally as well as in the Internationally in Germany, Denmark, Holland, UAE, KSA and USA.
