
Course Description:
Reviewing principles and learning the latest in oral surgery can be valuable for the general dentist, regardless of your scope of practice. Whether you perform dentoalveolar procedures in your office or routinely refer to oral & maxillofacial surgeons in your community, this course will review the key pearls and pitfalls you need to know to be up to date, including fundamentals of surgical technique, potential complications, and updates in managing common problems we encounter on a regular basis. Topics reviewed will include dental extractions, infections, and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ).
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Review basic surgical principles for routine and complex dentoalveolar surgery
- Discuss updates on relevant topics in oral and maxillofacial surgery including management of odontogenic infections and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ)
- Understand and recognize common complications in oral & maxillofacial surgery and when to refer to a specialist
Meet the Speaker: Dr. Andrew Read-Fuller
Dr. Andrew Read-Fuller is Clinical Assistant Professor and Residency Program Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Texas A&M School of Dentistry. He received his certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery from UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2017, after receiving his MD degree in 2014 from the UT Southwestern Medical School and graduating Magna Cum Laude from the UCLA School of Dentistry in the concurrent DDS/MS program. Dr. Read-Fuller is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and has been awarded the Faculty Educator Development Award by AAOMS in 2018 for his dedication to postdoctoral education in OMS and the OMS Foundation Research Support Grant in 2022 for his research in using artificial intelligence to aid in the management of facial trauma. He has held numerous national and international leadership positions in oral and maxillofacial surgery including serving on the American Association of OMS Committee on Continuing Education and Professional Development, the Board of Directors of the Dallas County Dental Society, OMS Foundation Board of Directors, and the North American Representative to the NexGen Committee of the International Association of OMS. Dr. Read-Fuller is interested in the broad scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with particular interest in the treatment of facial trauma, temporomandibular joint disease, dental implantology, peripheral nerve repair, and orthognathic surgery.
