Master Your Margins: Key Performance Indicators for Profit Maximization

New Course



Using the practice financial tools is a must for sustainable, financial growth in today’s dental practices. Every dental practice and dentist has information at hand with either 1) the press of a button in their dental software, or 2) in financial statements from their CPA, which can be used to support evidence-based decision-making. To save every possible dollar, it is important for dentists to be aware of how to use the information at their disposal to analyze the health of their dental practice. Equally important, is the ability to use this available information as the basis for dentists’ annual Strategic Planning sessions. This full day workshop will include lecture, discussion, evaluation of financial documents, and break-out sessions for case reviews to proactively identify opportunities for improved profit margins.



At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Review the financial reporting and practice documents that allow a dentist to keep a finger on the ‘financial pulse’ of the practice and deter embezzlement
  • Identify the dental software reporting tools within a dental practice that impact profits
  • Understand the impact of the types of data, reports, and documentation tools on a dental practice’s financial growth and sustainability
  • Conduct practice data analysis
  • Evaluate case-based resources and documents to unearth potential financial issues in a dental practice
  • Use practice data analysis to allocate resources
  • Incorporate the above into the annual goal setting Strategic Planning process
  • Define Dental Informatics and their correlation to a dentist owner’s financial goals, decision-making and profit margins

Michael DeMeola, CPA, CVA, CFE

Mike is a partner of Getsee & DeMeola, LLC and originally joined the firm in 1997.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration specializing in Accounting from St. Leo University.  Mike is a Certified Public Accountant as licensed by the State of Florida.  He specializes in small business consulting with a specialization in dental practices utilizing technology to help his clients run their business more efficiently.  Areas of practice include taxation, cash flow management, accounting software management and business growth and development.  He educates his clients to better understand their financial statements and the importance of planning for taxes, business succession and retirement.

Mike spends a great deal of time lecturing to various audiences throughout the state.  He has lectured at many county dental associations, the Florida Dental Convention, the University of Florida’s continuing dental education program as well as Nova Southeastern University and LECOM School of Dental Medicine.

Mike earned the CFE designation as a Certified Fraud Examiner and offers forensic and fraud accounting services.  He assists his clients by installing a fraud prevention program which significantly lessens the opportunity for a fraud to exist.  In the unfortunate circumstance where a fraud has occurred, Mike helps his clients from the detection of the fraud through prosecution where he is qualified to testify as an expert witness.  He earned his CVA designation as a Certified Valuation Analyst and offers valuation services for dental practices.

Mike was an adjunct instructor at the College of Central Florida. He taught tax and accounting courses including federal income taxation, intermediate accounting and integrated accounting.  He is proactive in the advancement of students by participating in the college’s Cooperative Education Program.  This program allows students the opportunity to gain real world experience and earn college credits in the process.

Annelise Ydstebo Driscoll, MBA, PhD




  • Dr. Driscoll is an accomplished Educator, Administrator, Researcher, Published Author and Consultant with approximately 30+ years’ experience in Health Care. She brings with her an extensive background in oral health and dentistry.
  • Dr. Driscoll has been in the Healthcare Administrative field for 25 years in private, public and corporate practices of different sizes, before transitioning to 10 years of academic teaching, research, public speaking, published author and peer-reviewed journal editor, and consultative project development in a health executive capacity.
  • She completed her Executive MBA from the University of Central Florida, College of Business and her PhD in Public Affairs/Healthcare Administration at UCF’s College of Health and Public Affairs.
  • Having spent the majority of her career integrally involved in the business side of dentistry, Dr. Driscoll has a strong passion for providing comprehensive, contemporary, and applicable education to assist dentists in protecting their dental practices and assets.
  • Dr. Driscoll is a full time faculty member in the Restorative Dental Sciences Department and the founding Director/Instructor of the Executive Practice Management™ Program for Dentists at the University of Florida, College of Dentistry.
  • In addition to teaching DMD students, Residents, and developing the Executive Practice Management™ curriculum at the University of Florida, College of Dentistry, Dr. Driscoll taught at the University of Central Florida, College of Health and Public Affairs in the Health Professions/Health Informatics Management Department.
  • She has worked collaboratively as an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Research at the University of South Florida, College of Public Health, Community and Family Health Department, in the area of HPV-related oral cancer and oral systemic correlations.
  • She has also built both the FSU Dental Center (Consultative Project) & the UCF Dental Center (Consultative Project then Founding Director of Dental Services).
  • Practice Management Systems, Dr. Driscoll’s personalized consulting firm, specializes in large-scale dental facility design, build out and operational projects, one-on-one consulting for dentists on Practice Legal Compliance, Operating Systems Development, and Dental Financial Systems Overhaul for Profit Maximization.
  • She has approximately 800 copyrighted works/systems on file with the US Library of Congress’ Copyright Office.
