Advanced Strategies for Indirect Restorations

Course Description

This continuing education course provides a comprehensive review of the diagnosis, treatment planning, and restoration of severely damaged teeth using indirect restorations and foundation techniques. Participants will examine indications, contraindications, and clinical protocols for onlays, post-and-core restorations, and full-coverage crowns. Emphasis will be placed on preserving remaining tooth structure, selecting appropriate restorative materials, managing endodontically treated teeth, and improving long-term clinical outcomes through evidence-based decision-making. Case presentations and practical clinical considerations will be discussed to help clinicians confidently restore structurally compromised teeth.

Course Objectives

1. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
2. Differentiate the indications and contraindications for onlays, post-and-core restorations, and full-coverage crowns in the treatment of severely damaged teeth.
3. Evaluate remaining tooth structure, determine and execute the most appropriate restorative treatment based on biomechanical and esthetic considerations from prep to cementation.
4. Describe current materials and techniques used for indirect restorations, including ceramic and  composite.
5. Apply evidence-based principles for restoring endodontically treated teeth to improve long-term prognosis.
6. Identify common causes of restoration failure and implement strategies to enhance the longevity and predictability of treatment outcomes.
