Local Anesthesia Refresher for Dental Hygienists: Enhancing Patient Comfort and Clinical Confidence

Course Description

This hands-on refresher course is designed to reinforce foundational knowledge and practical skills in local anesthesia administration, with a focus on enhancing patient comfort and managing anxiety. Through guided instruction and supervised clinical practice, attendees will increase their confidence in their technique and deepen their understanding of how to create a positive, pain-managed environment for patients. As proficiency in anesthesia requires ongoing practice and self-assessment, this course encourages a commitment to continued learning and skill refinement.

Note: Active participation in patient care is required. Attendees must consult with a physician regarding blood pressure control and overall health prior to engaging in clinical activities.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify anatomical landmarks relevant to local anesthesia administration, with emphasis on techniques for periodontal procedures.
  2. Demonstrate proper techniques for administering various types of local anesthesia, including infiltration and nerve block injections, in a clinical setting.
  3. Assess patient health status and medical history to determine appropriate anesthesia protocols, including considerations for blood pressure and systemic conditions.
  4. Recognize and respond to complications associated with local anesthesia, including allergic reactions, failed anesthesia, and post-operative concerns.
