About Alex J Delgado

Alex J. Delgado received his DDS degree from Universidad Santa María, Caracas, Venezuela in 2001. From 2001 through 2010, Dr. Delgado worked in a private practice and clinical settings in Venezuela and North Carolina. In 2011, he joined the University of North Carolina, School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill where he earned his Master’s in Operative Dentistry and a Clinical Certificate in Advanced Operative Dentistry. Dr. Delgado joined the University of Florida in 2014, as a Clinical Assistant Professor and now serves as Director of the Dental Continue Education. He is the past Division Director of Operative Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dental Sciences. Dr. Delgado is the Clinic Director for the Equal Access Clinic Network.

Dr. Delgado is a member of several professional organizations including the American Dental Association, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, The Academy of General Dentistry and the International Association for Dental Research. He served as a manuscript reviewer for six peer-reviewed dental journals and also serves as part of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Dentistry and Oral Care. In 2016, he was presented with The Judson C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award from the American Prosthodontic Society and was awarded as Teacher of the Year 2015-2016 and 2018-2019 of the University of Florida. Dr. Delgado has also received the Sustained Exemplary Teaching Award for 2016-2017. In 2019 he was the recipient of the Rising Start Faculty award from the Academy of Operative Dentistry.

Dr. Delgado is involved in patient care devoted to prevention, restorative dentistry, and esthetics. He has actively maintained himself in research, particularly in the area of dental erosion, biomaterials, and educational research. He has mentored graduate and undergrad students in different research projects. He is the course director of many operative courses and served as the faculty advisor for the DMD class of 2018. Dr. Delgado is the director of many graduate courses for the Masters of Operative and Esthetic Dentistry. He is also the Editor-in-chief of the Operative Bond. Dr. Delgado is a member of the National Practice-Based Research Network and he is a part of the communication and dissemination subcommittee of the network. Dr. Delgado also belongs to the Dental Material section for the IADR/AADR and was recently appointed to part of the constitution committee of the IADR/AADR.

Dr. Delgado maintains faculty practice one day a week (Thursdays) dedicated to preventive, restorative, and esthetic dentistry.

Dr. Delgado earned a clinical certificate in Operative Dentistry from the University of North Carolina and has been involved in private practice for more than 20 years.

Research Profile

Dr. Delgado has a vast of different research in the area of dental materials such as dental ceramics, dental cements, impression materials, light curing, finishing and polishing restorations. He also has dedicated a great deal to research in dental erosion. Dr. Delgado also enjoy conducting educational research. He served as Ad-hoc reviewer for 5 peer scientific review journals and is the associate editor for another journal. He has mentored many undergrad and graduate students through different type of research.
