Participating as a Foreign-Trained Dentist

Participation Policy for Foreign-Trained Dentists

The University of Florida College of Dentistry welcomes foreign-trained dentists to participate in Continuing Education courses. To ensure compliance with CE regulations and proper course placement, the following guidelines apply:

Eligibility & Scope

  • Foreign-trained dentists may not practice on live patients during CE courses.
  • They may participate in lecture, hands-on simulations, and observation as allowed by the course format.

Registration & Fees

  • If the participant is a U.S. Dental Hygienist or Dental Assistant:
    • They may register for courses designed for Dental Assistants or Dental Hygienists and pay the corresponding fee.
    • If they wish to register under the Dental Team rate, they must attend with a licensed dentist who pays full tuition.
    • CE Certificates will indicate their role as DA or DH, not as “Dr.”
  • If the participant is a foreign-trained dentist seeking U.S. licensure or bolstering a dental program application:
    • They are encouraged to register and pay the full dentist tuition and participate as a dentist in lecture and simulations.
    • CE Certificates will indicate “Dentist” only if full tuition is paid and they meet course participation requirements.

CE Credit

  • CE credit is awarded according to the participant’s registration category (DA, DH, Dental Team, or Dentist).
  • Credit eligibility may be restricted if U.S. licensure or course-specific requirements are not met.

General Policies

CE reserves the right to verify credentials, adjust registration categories, or deny participation if requirements are not met. Refunds or adjustments will follow CE policy.

Participants must follow all CE attendance, conduct, and safety policies.
